Steve and Debbie Eayrs moved to Homer in 1983, having spent a fair amount of time involved in various phases of construction, Steve soon found himself working for a local plumbing shop. New construction has been the mainstay thru the years since then, but during the earlier years Steve could be seen driving around doing heating and plumbing service work when it presented itself, while Debbie became more directly involved answering the phone and running the office.
The earlier years were spent in various places around Homer. Starting out in tents and shipping containers Eayrs Plumbing moved into rented space in town till 1994 when Steve and Debbie purchased the property at 1208 Lakeshore Dr. It did not take long before employees with energy and a vision convinced Steve and Debbie to open a retail outlet for plumbing and heating related items for the surrounding Homer area.
Eayrs Plumbing and Heating quickly became known as experts in boiler piping and controls, radiant heated floors and installing thermal solar panels, which supplement the domestic hot water and radiant heated floor systems with solar, surprising for Alaska, Eayrs has discovered that it is not hard to supply 50% of the hot water and heating needs of a common house though solar gain.
In 2015, Debbie passed away, after a long and hard-fought battle with a lung disease. Surrounded by hard working, talented people Eayrs continued to do grow, despite Steve not being as involved as he once was.
In 2016, the process of transferring the ownership of the business to Nathan and Corrie Ellington started to take place. Nathan has been employed with Eayrs Plumbing and Heating for over 15 years and seemed like a natural step for both parties involved. Both Steve and Nate are excited to see what the next stage of life has in store for them. With a recent expansion of the retail section of the shop, has resulted in the renewed vision to do a better job of meeting the construction and service demands of out growing area. Over the last 30+ years at least 900 boiler systems have been installed, commercial and residential, new construction and remodel, plumbing and heating service work, plus almost 20 years involved in solar thermal systems. With over only half of the crew having a combined 100+ years of experience in this business, we feel we add something valuable to our great community, and should be able to answer your plumbing and heating questions.
